Gramercy Arms Rough Trade NYC In-Store on 8/12
ROUGH TRADE NYC IN-STORE alert! Gramercy Arms is a revolving New York based collective of musicians and artists, masterminded by main songwriter/producer Dave Derby (Dambuilders/Lloyd Cole) along with Rainy Orteca, Sean Eden and Kevin March. Purchase their new album "The Seasons Of Love" at Rough Trade (64 N. 9th Street, Brooklyn NY) starting at 11am on 8/12 to receive one wristband for entry to the in-store that evening (doors 6:30/show 7pm). It must be purchased in the store and cannot be purchased online.
Expanding from the sunny, unapologetically pop approach of the debut, The Seasons of Love widens the musical palette as well as the range of collaboration by featuring Lloyd Cole and Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman), Tanya Donelly (Belly, Throwing Muses), Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), Kendall Meade (Sparklehorse), Claudia Gonson (Magnetic Fields), Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices), Erin Moran (A Girl Called Eddy), Renee LoBue (Elk City), Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) and others. The album was recorded by Dave Derby and Ray Ketchem, mixed by acclaimed engineer Thom Monahan and mastered by Eric Broyhill. Making the album was not a short process, the album was five years in the making as it took countless hours to schedule the recording sessions with the many contributors... it had to be just right. From the emotionally charged duet Beautiful Disguise where lead vocals are handled by Lloyd Cole and Joan Wasser, their vocal delivery suiting the track perfectly to the soundtrack for the summer single Always In Love backed with the chord laden and anthemic The Night Is Your only Friend, this is power pop of the highest order.
Eternally inspired by the artistic heyday of '70s and '80s-era New York City, Gramercy Arms makes crisp, multi-layered pop rock music that elicits authentic emotion. Wistful, joyous, contemplative, cool and triumphant- depending on the track you land on, The Seasons of Love might make you feel it all.
"Gorgeous song craft and sun-kissed vocals and laidback power pop - Oh, Gramercy - we're in love!" The Guardian
"Soothing and playful - a tonic to credit-crunch worries" BBC Music
