The Residents donate $100k "Ultimate Box Set” to MoMA NY
In December of 2012, The Residents announced the availability of an “Ultimate Box Set” (UBS) with a video of singer Randy Rose showing off a refrigerator filled with over 150 Residents products. Included in the offering were first pressings and first releases of every major album, single, video, DVD, and much more, with the crown jewel being a genuine eyeball mask from the iconic group.
Price tag? $100,000.
Cryptic has donated one of the refrigerator UBS to the Museum of Modern Art in NY. The UBS differs in that it is oriented toward the preservation of the works of the Residents (music, video, CDR games), rather than as a collectible UBS of rarities. The UBS will be stored in the vast modern art audio/video collection.
