MVD Films at Noise Pop 2015
Noise Pop Festival , the Bay Area’s premiere indie music, film and arts festival, is excited to announce the initial lineup of independent film screenings to take place at multiple venues to precede the music portion of the Festival, which begins on Friday, February 20. Film Series badges will be available today at 11:00 PST, while individual film screening tickets go on sale tomorrow, December 19 at noon PST. All badges and tickets are available for purchase at www.NoisePop.com/2015.
Noise Pop will host the West Coast premiere of Hardcore DEVO Live with Director Keirda Bahruth and DEVO’s Jerry Casale in attendance for this film featuring stunning performance footage of their earlier raw material created between ’74 and ’77. This year’s festival will also host the West Coast premiere of Salad Days: The Birth of Punk in the Nation’s Capital, a film directed by Scott Crawford that is a sprawling love story about the D.C. punk scene, full of jaw-dropping archival footage and interviews with local punk luminaries like Ian MacKaye and Dave Grohl. In a very special presentation of one of the original science-fiction films, Metropolis, will feature a live music scoring by Stones Throw recording artist Chrome Canyon.
The film Ollies, Dollies & Drones: A Survey of Spike Jonze's Skate Videos will make its premiere of this survey of skateboard videos with some very special guests in attendance. The screening of Beautiful Noise will give viewers a glimpse into the lives of three of alternative rock’s most influential groups (Cocteau Twins, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and My Bloody Valentine). Director Jenni Matz’s Rye Coalition: The Story of the Hard Luck Five will also have its West Coast premiere at the Festival followed by a special Q&A with Matz and Tim Green (The Fucking Champs, Nation of Ulysses). The film provides an inside look at this New Jersey hard rock band who were on the rise and poised for great things, but who never quite got their due. Noise Pop will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Stop Making Sense with a free screening of the legendary Talking Heads concert documentary.
These films join Noise Pop Festival’s previously announced music lineup that includes a variety of national and local acts, such as The New Pornographers, Caribou, Cathedrals, Geographer, The Black Ryder, Dan Deacon, The Church, and many more. Additional film screenings, as well as the full music lineup for this year’s fest will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
