Graffiti Rock featured in the new doc Fresh Dressed airing on CNN
After premiering earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, the official trailer for Fresh Dressed is here. Directed by Mass Appeal's Creative Director, Sacha Jenkins SHR, the film explores how hip hop fashion influenced the larger industry and ultimately affected mass culture.
The trailer opens with Kanye West - an artist whose brand is a synonymous with style as it is music - speaking about the importance of "getting fresh," which he argues is more important than money. Nas, Pusha T, Puff Daddy, Andre Leon Talley, and more share their thoughts on the importance of hip hop fashion, and are just a handful of the numerous icons that appear in the film.
Fresh Dressed includes segments from the seminal Hip Hop public access show Graffiti Rock. MVD currently distributes the DVD Graffiti Rock (And Other Hip-Hop Delights) which was a creation of Michael Holman.
Holman brought a whole new culture to the living rooms of those searching to identify with the sounds of the street. This DVD covers the humble beginnings of many now well-known artists and musicians such as RUN DMC, Kool Moe Dee, DJ Jazzy J, Fab 5 Freddy, and the breakdancing/b-boying crew The New York City Breakers. See how true underground artists got together and developed a scene that after 20 years has not only stood the test of time but even the name given originally as an insult - Hip Hop!
