In this definitive spaghetti western, Franco Nero (Keoma, The Fifth Cord) gives a career-defining performance as Django, a mysterious loner who arrives at a mud-drenched ghost town on the Mexico-US border, ominously dragging a coffin behind him. After saving imperilled prostitute Maria (Loredana Nusciak), Django becomes embroiled in a brutal feud between a racist gang and a band of Mexican revolutionaries... With Django, director Sergio Corbucci (The Great Silence) upped the ante for sadism and sensationalism in westerns, depicting machine-gun massacres, mud-fighting prostitutes and savage mutilations. A huge hit with international audiences, Django's brand of bleak nihilism would be repeatedly emulated in a raft of unofficial sequels. The film is presented here in its 4K UHD Blu-ray debut, with a wealth of extras. Also included is the bonus feature Texas, Adios on Blu-ray, which also stars Franco Nero, and was released as a sequel to Django in some countries.

Press Quotes

Sergio Corbucci is one of the truly great western directors of all time

     —Quentin Tarantino

One of the films that set the tone and attitude and style spaghetti westerns

     —Sean Axmaker, The Seattle Times

In its years of unavailability on video, Sergio Corbucci's 1966 spaghetti western Django had been a much-requested, much-sought-after title, and one can easily see why

     —Michael Dequina, The Movie Report

A miracle. Every frame of this is a miracle. The level of resolution is absurd, and so precise, the imagery picks up on the minutiae from cloth, yarn, feathers, and of course facial definition. Perfect grain reproduction spoils nothing, allowing texture to flourish.

     —Doblu

While wholly artificial in its fictional flair, this isn't a mere gun slinging firefight, but a measured, distinctive western fable, aided by a majestic score via composer Luis Bacalov.

     —Doblu

Arrow Video's 4K Ultra HD release of Sergio Corbucci's landmark spaghetti western is the label's best release of the year so far, supplementing a phenomenal A/V transfer with a slew of extras, even a separate feature film, Texas, Adios, as an added bonus.

     —Slant Magazine

It's not hard to see why Django created such an instant sensation when it was released, even if took a while for that sensation to reach the shores of the United States. The story is stuffed full of outré touches and Corbucci provides a really kinetic style that helps propel things in a consistently exciting way. Arrow's new release sports great technical merits and excellent supplements. Highly recommended.

     —Blu-ray.com

This dark, bloody little item from director Sergio Corbucci was the second giant hit of the Spaghetti Western era, after the worldwide success of Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars." Django looks terrific on 4K, the high-def transfer capturing the ravages of both the vast landscapes and the colorful characters.
