Having built his reputation playing his offbeat, anti-folk compositions in the coffee shops and art houses of New York and L.A., surrealistic troubadour Beck got his breakthrough in 1994 with his major label debut Mellow Gold. In the shops just a week after his second independent record, Stereopathic Soulmanure, Mellow Gold blended rock, hip hop, folk, blues, psychedelia and country with Beck's own trademark wit and lyricism. Despite the non-commercial style of the album, Mellow Gold was a success, reaching No. 13 in the U.S. charts and eventually going Platinum. The record featured a new version of the single 'Loser', which had been previously only available independently. To support the album, Beck embarked on his first major tour, playing 138 dates in 1994 alone, while performing across Europe, Asia, Oceania, and North and South America. On the 4th December he played The Melkweg (Milky Way) club in Amsterdam, which was the subject of a live FM broadcast throughout Europe and across his native United States too. Playing a broad range of tunes from his catalogue to date, all in his inimitable style, this set - released here on CD for the first time - will prove a welcome addition to the collections of Beck fans everywhere.
