Although the name of Dick Curless may not be on everybody's lips, he possessed one of the finest voices in Country Music, with a huge vocal range. A Tombstone Every Mile was his biggest hit and it's here, along with all his other Tower recordings up to 1969. These records are how most people remember the artist, but his early recordings are even finer. Starting with the 1950 Standard 78 records, this anthology includes all the Event and Tiffany recordings, issued and unissued. His best works were the intimate songs recorded with a sparse backing (including Lenny Breau) before 1960. They were nurtured by the small non-commercial studios in Maine and Massachusetts that he used even for some of the Tower releases. We have dug up the early broadcasts made when he was serving in Korea and performing as The Rice Paddy Ranger, plus the previously unheard audition tape for Event. As unfamiliar as he may be, you will not be disappointed with the music in this box. Sadly, though, Dick Curless died shortly before it was completed.
