Greatest chart entries: "Arms Of Mary", "Dream Kid", "When The Train Comes" as well as author and composer: "Sailing" with Rod Stewart! Linking the work of Gavin Sutherland solely to his mega success of Rod Stewart's version of "Sailing" does not do the born Scotsman justice. The career with his brother Iain as SUTHERLAND BROTHERS or SUTHERLAND BROTHERS AND QUIVER was too diverse. Between the years 1972 and 1979, the brothers' eight albums attracted a lot of attention and all of them were able to enter the UK respectively the US charts. On top of that came several veritable single hits two of which written by the brothers were the most popular: "(I Don't Want to Love You But) You Got Me Anyway" and most of all "Arms Of Mary" (in the summer of 1976 #1 in nearly every country in Europe). After the release of his first solo album in "Beat Of My Heart", Gavin Sutherland allowed himself for the rest of the 1980's and 1990's a longer break from music. But since the turn of the century, Sutherland has again been releasing records continuously. Apart from two songs all compositions of his current album "Wireless Connection" belong to a song cycle reminding us of a time when the wireless was in the centre of a family's life providing them with entertainment and information and, most importantly, brought music from all over the world into the listener's living room. The twelve new tunes from the album "Wireless Connection" are intended to slow the listener down. They take us back to the days of the good old radio cabinet, to the time before the internet when the world was less fast. Gavin Sutherland presents his memories in best singer/songwriter quality with a whiff of folk rock and Americana.
