Swaying Wires return with their stunning sophomore album 'I Left A House Burning'.
I remember exactly the first time I heard Swaying Wires. It was early February 2013, I was tuned into a podcast of an Australian radio show called 'Sideways Through Sound', mainly because a song by my own band was pinned on the impressively psychedelic playlist. I listened to the end of my song, hopeful of a few superlatives from the DJ (all musicians need a little ego boost now and then) to send me on my way. That was that, or so I thought. As I enjoyed the small and very temporary buzz from whatever kind words the DJ had chosen for me, another song was starting, a hesitantly plucked acoustic guitar, a sudden flood of distortion and then..... that voice.
The song I heard that morning was 'Blinding Nights'. I listened to it over and over, I emailed the band to tell them how much I loved it, I told all of my friends about this amazing new band from Finland, I scoured the internet looking for more songs, I couldn't get enough, I was officially a fan. It turns out that I wasn't the only one who was bowled over that day as the band quickly signed with Brighton based Indie label 'Battle Worldwide' in 2013 and released their debut album 'Some Blue Sky' later that same year.
But, as much as I could wax lyrical for hours about 'Some Blue Sky', I'm not here to talk about the past, I'm here to talk about how Tina Karkinen (Vocals, acoustic guitar), Sami Lehtonen (Electric guitar/production), Nicklas Hagen (Bass) and Jussi Virkkumaa (Drums) are back with a rolling brontide of a second album, 'I Left a House Burning'. Two years of constant hard work have led Swaying Wires here. Two years of gigging in places like Turku, Helsinki, Pori, Vaasa, Tampere, Brighton and London, two years of personal struggles and triumphs. If you listen with the right ears, you can hear all of this and more on 'I Left a House Burning'. It is a fragile yet disarmingly honest account of the time that has passed since 'Some Blue Sky'. To me this feels like the first proper Swaying Wires album, they are a gang now, there is a confidence about them, not arrogance but just enough savvy to know what they want and how to deliver it.
It is not just in Tina's songwriting, which keeps getting stronger with every strum of her guitar but also in Sami's production; it's subtle, effective and part of the band, another instrument. Whereas on 'Some Blue Sky' it occasionally felt like 4 individuals trying to find their place, 'I Left a House Burning' is clearly a group effort. The rhythm section of Nicklas and Jussi has now become the ...more info @ http://www.battleworldwiderecordings.com

Press Quotes
Led by the mesmeric vocals of Tina Karkinen and an addiction to the kind of gently chiming guitars that should soundtrack your 'gazing wistfully out of the window' moments... fragile prettiness
—The Sunday Times
Next year's indie phenomenon... now we are at the heart of the beautiful
—Rumba
Tina Karkinen's voice steals the opening moments of the track, carrying it along until the band quietly joins. Still, the ringing of the guitar sound that echoes in the background, solidifies this tune for me, giving it a final bit of charm
—Austin Town Hall
Hailing from Finland, Swaying Wires is the kind of band that crawls under your skin. They represent duality- familiar yet unique, rooted in the traditional, yet pushing towards the future
—Elmore Magazine
I love the vocals from Tina Kakinen here, creating her own imprint with vocals falling somewhere in the stellar ranges of Natalie Merchant, Neko Case, or even maybe Deb Talan
—Insomnia Radio
Karkinen's voice is gentle and casual but maintains a fiery vulnerability--not unlike that of Neko Case in her quieter moments--and demands to be heard even when her voice barely rises above a whisper
—Nooga
Led by singer-songwriter Tina Karkinen, Finnish band Swaying Wires put a distinct Nordic spin on traditional Americana. Subtle elements of psychedelia creep into the music adding richness and mystery--not unlike the Sadies, come to think of it--which you ca

If you only listen to one song tonight, make it 'Nowhere' by Swaying Wires
