The Bravados is a 1958 American western film (color by DeLuxe) directed by Henry King, starring Gregory Peck and Joan Collins. The CinemaScope film was based on a novel of the same name, written by Frank O'Rourke. Anthony McGill writes: "A compelling "adult" western which I never get tired of watching. Powerful and thought provoking and with more than a touch of irony, this 1958 Henry King directed film has a relentless Gregory Peck (great in the role) in pursuit of four outlaws who have allegedly raped and murdered his wife. With a kidnap victim in toe (Joan Collins), the four are gradually hunted down by the vengeful Peck. What a cast of baddies: Stephen Boyd, Lee Van Cleef, Albert Salmi and Henry Silva. The terrific soundtrack which accompanied this film was credited to Lionel Newman but it was actually composed by his brother Alfred and Hugo Friedhofer. And due to the musician's strike in the U.S., the music was recorded in Germany by the Graunke Orchestra conducted by Bernhard Kaun in Munich. Quite a combination of multi talents to get this exciting score produced. As you would expect with the names mentioned, the music is superb with an opening stirring Newman march sequence a highlight and the score features a nice slice of Mexican flavor. As to who composed and/or arranged each sequence, the enclosed CD booklet details that information."
