American Distress is the newest aggravated and politically charged punk release from New York's infamous Tent City Records. Comprised of members from punk stalwarts In-DK and Choking Victim, American Distress explores more mature and complexly musical environ than its label forefathers, managing to adeptly and simultaneously reference seminal punk/HC bands as well as the future of blastbeat punk rock. Political without being preachy, American Distress's lyrical rants range from America's compulsive consumer-based culture to defining one's self through fierce independence and personal responsibility. Driving guitar lines are punctuated by relentless percussive elements that are a far cry from the stark angst of earlier Tent City efforts, and draw more from hardcore punk influence like the brutal soundscapes created by bands like Black Flag and "Animosity"-era C.O.C. Originally formed in 2001, American Distress's debut s/t album is comprised of new material plus 4 tracks reworked from their earlier demo EP, with the help of their new and potent singer Xray. The band has a full tour planned for late winter. Spokesman/drummer Skwert commented "After touring the whole U.S. without any help from outside sources, American Distress is ready to play anywhere and do anything it takes to spread the word." Seems like they really mean it.
