As a jazz guitarist for over forty-five years, I have always been drawn towards piano players. There is a certain magic to be conjured when both chordal instruments agree: simpatico. This is the third album I've recorded for ITI Records and they have all been piano and guitar duet formats. Indeed, it takes a special quality on both players' contributions to pull it off and produce a cohesive result. New York based pianist and composer Marc Devine is one of those special guitar catchers. We first met on stage at the Cannes jazz festival as part of a rhythm section backing a vocalist. From the first notes we started to smile. Marc swings from top to bottom as his style shifts with the mood of each selection, tempo, and intensity. His playing is so strong that I took the role of a horn player and laid out completely on his solos. Recorded one winter weekend in 2012 at my studio in Nice France, Fourth Floor Recorders, I insisted that Marc lay down two solo pieces because I just love to hear him play. We sincerely hope that our interpretations of standards as well a few originals set forth on this CD will please and bring you back for more. In closing, I'd like to thank my good friend and the president of ITI Records, Michael Dion for believing in this project and co-producing it. There are three solo tracks on the album, with Marc on two pieces and Art on one. It's their interconnection interpretations of standards as well a few originals set forth on this CD. Both of these artists are well known in their genre and have performed with jazz greats Red Holloway, Butch Mile, Jessie Davis, Neal Miner, Benny Powell, Clark Terry, Paul Horn, John Klemmer, Tim Weisberg, Papa John Creach, Mark O'Connor and Willie Bobo.
