World-renowned chamber ensemble, the Atlantic Brass Quintet continue to expand the role of the traditional brass quintet with 'Crossover' - the group's tenth recording - a fresh recording revolving around compositions by NYC jazz luminaries Dave Douglas, Ben Monder and Alan Ferber and includes Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Jazz Suite” as well as dance music from the Balkans.

The Atlantic Brass Quintet is a world-renowned chamber ensemble founded in Boston, MA. The members of Atlantic strive to expand the role of the traditional brass quintet with impassioned performances of vibrant music from around the world.

This project, their 10th recording, centers around compositions by NYC jazz luminaries Dave Douglas, Ben Monder and Alan Ferber and includes Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Jazz Suite” as well as dance music from the Balkans.

Much of it is inspired or influenced by jazz, and in the case of Kopi Luwak and Luteous Pangolin, written or arranged specifically for the Atlantic Brass Quintet by jazz composers. This influence is a reflection of the addition of their newest members, Tim Albright and Andrew Sorg, who both have impressive jazz chops, as is evident by their solos. Also evident in this project is the group’s continued fascination with the brass band tradition of the Balkans, and Dmitri Shostakovich’s unique “take” on jazz. As always, the quintet continues to explore new currents.

Crossover not only alludes to crossing over genres into the world of jazz, but the quintet’s crossing over the Atlantic Ocean to one of the brass world’s richest traditions; Balkan Brass Bands of Eastern Europe.
