An ensemble whose legacy is too often seen as one built solely in the studio, rarely on the road, The Beach Boys nevertheless performed at a plethora of quite remarkable live events throughout their glory years. Many of these have previously been lost to the ravages of time. However, this box set attempts to redress this fallacy in some small way, by featuring three CDs containing a series of such events. Disc One here includes selections from the group's 1967 fall tour, performed in the wake of their Smiley Smile album, and which fills in a number of gaps left following the release of the recent Sunshine Tomorrow compilation. Disc Two features their full gig at the Fillmore West in 1971; while the Disc Three has a classic 1980s gig as focal point, their 4th July show in Philadelphia.
