The focal point of American Folk Festivals, Ben & Jerry's Newport features some of the biggest folk & Americana artists on Momentos. Historically, one of the earliest American Folk Festivals, Newport takes place in Rhode Island and originated as a counterpoint to the globally successful Newport Jazz Festival. The festival was begun by George Wein, Dylan manager Albert Grossman and artists Pete Seeger, Oscar Brand and Theodore Bikel. In the early days Newport was noted for featuring artists at the forefront of the Civil Rights and antiwar movements. In recent times the focal point of protest artists has expanded to include issues of womens' rights, LGBTQ and climate issues
