In 1957, two movies each featuring romance, a chart-topping theme song and a happy ending did particularly good business at the box office. For pop vocalist Pat Boone, the leading role in "April Love" gave him the chance to prove that he could do more than sing whilst for Debbie Reynolds in the title role of "Tammy And The Bachelor", it was an opportunity to show that the girl from "Singing In The Rain" had blossomed into a more than competent actress. Pat Boone, with 60 American chart hits to his credit, was one of the most successful vocalists of the time. By 1957 Pat had already topped the Record Charts in both America and Britain and with his clean-cut image, was ideal movie star material. The movie "April Love" had Pat starring opposite Shirley Jones, well established after two hugely successful roles in the screen versions of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel". The song April Love appears at various times throughout the film, but this soundtrack rendition isn't the one that made it to Number One for six weeks, but a separately recorded pop version which we have also included here. The "April Love" sound track reached 12th position in the US Album charts. Debbie Reynolds has an enduring career that has carried on long after "Tammy". Not only was she making 'pop' records on the side but Debbie has also been "The Singing Nun", appeared on Broadway in "Irene", headlined in Reno and Vegas, starred in "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", produced keep-fit videos, and turned up in the hit television series Will and Grace. "Tammy", the theme song sung by Debbie was a Number One hit in America for five weeks. Also included is a version of "Tammy" by The Ames Brothers, heard over the movie's opening credits, and incidental background music to both films. The four bonus tracks are pop songs recorded by Debbie Reynolds.
