Every Little Bit Hurts is the latest by pop/jazz flutist Bradley Leighton. This EP is a light collection of pop and C-Jazz singles all with a funky flair and impeccably styled by this great master flutist. The title cut, Every Little Bit Hurts, is a cover version of the 1964 Motown hit by the same name. Mr. Leighton stays close to the origin's soulful groove and vibe with an emphasis on keeping close to Brenda Holloway's elegant melodic line. Easy Greasy is a rhythmic, easy going tune that was written and recorded in 1996 by "Deems Tsutakawa and Seattle Groove." Leighton was featured on several early "Groove" projects including this first one. For this version of the tune we made changes to the rhythm bed to bring it up to date with current grooves and brought the flute more to the forefront throughout the tune. Another remake from the Seattle Groove CD is entitled Splabb. Here is a definite throwback groove originally intended to be a tribute to 70s funk. Hard driving rhythm with a simple, effective melody - this is a solo vehicle intended to show off the creative, funky flute licks of Leighton in one of his favorite formats. Easy Morning is a tune Leighton co-wrote with his longtime mentor Ronald Igarta sometime in the late 1980's. Amazingly, this tune was changed very little from the original which is a tribute to the late Ronnie's incredible skills as a pianist and arranger. This slow rock ballad is a beautiful tune inspired by the sound and beauty of Long Beach, WA. Midnight Affairs appears on a previous release (Back to the Funk 2006) but fits perfectly into this collection of mellow, cool grooves. And finally, Every Little Bit Hurts (vocal version). A remix of the instrumental version featuring Chicago bred Paula Prophet in the lead role. Paula says she "feels Motown in her soul" and her performance will make you a believer.
This project is a labor of love in many ways for the artist and truly represents his soulful playing at its best.
