In 2010, Brooks began performing as solo act and released the largely acoustic collection 'The Songster' in 2011, assembling his the backing band The Mad Dog No Good shortly thereafter. The following year they released the EP Let's Make Out To Otis Redding. Two more single releases, "Spring" and "Ain't Never Had A Good Time," began receiving local airplay on regional powerhouse radio station WTMD in 2013. In 2014, the band was named "Best Real R&B" Artist in Baltimore City Paper. Brooks began a year-long Maryland Traditions apprenticeship with Wendell Holmes of the blues/roots band, The Holmes Brothers. Following Wendell's passing, Brooks began playing guitar and singing with Sherman Holmes, Wendell's dear brother and bandmate. 2015 saw the launch of The Songster Part II, a homemade continuing song series that serves to showcase non-Mad Dog No Good compositions. Later that year, Brooks Long & The Mad Do No Good entered the studio to record their debut album, Mannish Boys, released locally in May 2016. Brooks Long brings an old school R&B/Soul vibe to today's music lovers with a style all his own, including tasteful nods to Otis Redding & James Brown. With Joe Martone (Bass) & Dan Samuels (Drums), The Mad Dog No Good brings a passion and energy that are rare in today's music scene, having shared the stage with acts like Trombone Shorty, Rebirth Brass Band, Lucero, Low Cut Connie, Caleb Stine, Chris Jacobs and Lafayette Gilchrist, as well as an acclaimed recent performance live on regional powerhouse radio station WTMD.
