Soneros de Verdad present Rubalcaba y Cesar « Pupi » Pedroso Con Orquesta Termidor Cuba « Los Pianistas » Over the years, elder, tried-and-tested cult greats of the Cuban music scene have joined the ranks of Soneros de Verdad and, when the occasion demanded, stepped forward solo into the limelight. For example, on "A Buena Vista: Barrio de la Habana" the over-seventy-year-old veterans Manuel "Puntillita" Licea and Rudy Calzado or the great Pio Leiva could be heard in special performances. Ever since they were founded in 2000, Soneros de Verdad have placed great importance on presenting famous Cuban musicians in their own way. Thanks to their vast versatility this has always worked well. On this latest album the spotlight is on Guillermo "Rubalcaba" Gonzalez and Cesar "Pupi" Pedroso: two famous pianists from different epochs. RUBALCABA, the man from the province of Pinar del Rio, was born in 1927 and developed early into a much sought-after young pianist. He was a member of the groups Ases del Ritmo and Monte Carlo, he toured with cha cha cha inventor Enrique Jorrin and the Afro Cuban All Stars; and recently he has been part of the worldwide music show "The Bar at Buena Vista". Guillermo Rubalcaba, who by the way is the father of famous jazz pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, has an immense repertoire of traditional genres: son, guaracha, cha-cha-cha, danzon, bolero etc., and yet even at the ripe age of 85 he is still open to innovations. Old and new - this Cuban can do both, so working with timba specialist Cesar "Pupi" Pedroso was a delight for him. "Pupi" Cesar Pedroso has been a key figure on the Cuban music scene for three and a half decades. As a member of supergroup Los Van Van he was party to stylistic creations like songo and timba; as a songwriter he wrote numerous hits for his fellow musicians, and many a time with his trail-breaking innovations he helped to develop the piano as part of Latin music. At the beginning of the new millennium he began to pay more attention to his own career. Pedroso founded Los Que Son, Son and in a short space of time they realised a variety of concert and recording projects together. Now the ensemble has audibly grown together to a cohesive unit. "Los Pianistas" will doubtless set off waves of cheering from their fans. Once again this group from the rum and tobacco island takes the listener on an entertaining musical tour on which the charisma of experienced musicians blends fruitfully with the temperament of younger talents. Cheerfully the Soneros build a musical bridge between past and present,
