This set gathers together 18 selections from one of jazz's greatest saxophonists, Charlie Parker. All the recordings were captured in the late 1940s and early 1950s at such storied venues as Carnegie Hall and Birdland in New York, The Jubilee in Los Angeles, and the Portland Civic Auditorium. Focused on experiments in Afro-Cuban fusion, Parker is joined by a dazzling array of jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Art Blakey, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Red Rodney, and others. The package includes essays by rock keyboardist Keith Emerson and contemporary jazz saxophonist Cory Weeds. While these tracks have previously appeared on other albums, this is the first time they have been gathered in this deluxe package. Available on a limited-edition 180-gram vinyl version for Record Store Day available exclusively at independent retailers. Also available on CD and digital.

Press Quotes

The great jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker shares the stage with such other luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Art Blakey, and Stan Kenton on this collection of live recordings from venues that include New York's Carnegie Hall and Birdland... If you wanted to explain to someone why Parker is considered a legend, you could do worse than to hand over a copy of this album

     —Jeff Burger, Aquarian Weekly

This record is so fantastic, just to hear the beauty of (Parker's solos. There's a couple of tracks on here that are with a big band, Renaissance Ballroom, 1950, and the groove is just off the charts!

     —Ken Micallef, Jazz Vinyl Audiophile

Parker is at the height of his powers, bursting with confidence, interlocking especially well with Gillespie throughout, and finding a nice groove in 'Lament for the Congo'.

—Gillian Gaar, Rock & Roll Globe

A must for jazz heads and casual Bird fans alike.

     —Brett Callwood, L.A. Weekly
