Here's the guitar that changed the world, and the recordings that changed it! Just one of the ultra-rare 10-inch albums included here fetches more than the cost of the set! As a producer, musician, and recording executive, Chet Atkins changed the course of country music... several times, several ways. His guitar style was among the most widely emulated in all American music, and - ironically
influenced a generation of rock musicians at the time he was formulating country music's response to rock, 'The Nashville Sound. '
In these early recordings, made between 1946 and 1954, Chet was exploring the guitar's potential, taking risks, and showing why every country and rockabilly picker was listening to him. By the end of the set, he was acknowledged as the greatest instrumentalist in country music. The 115 sides here include rare demo's from Knoxville circa mid-'40s, the Bullet sides, and all the RCA recordings until 1954, such as Canned Heat, Dizzy Strings, Jitterburg Waltz, One Man Boogie, Country Gentleman, and The Old Spinning Wheel. Backing or duet musicians include Homer and Jethro, Hank Snow, and George Barnes. Chet Atkins died June 30, 2001.
