In 1959 Hamilton recorded That Hamilton Man, an album that, at the time, was not available commercially, its use being confined to library, broadcasting and soundtrack purposes. This record is however included in this collection. Hamilton also kept working in film, recording the soundtrack to the 1962 industrial short Litho, which became the first American film to be shown behind the Iron Curtain. The era would see the release of some of his most critically acclaimed albums, including Drumfusion in 1962 and 1963's Passin' Thru. Hamilton founded his own advertising and film production company in 1965, scoring the music for Roman Polanski's Repulsion amongst other movies. Chico's career continued to flourish in the 70s; he played the Montreux Jazz Festival in both 1972 and 1973, and in 1975 he formed a new group, Players, which included saxophonist Arthur Blythe, trombonist Steve Turre and multi-instrumentalist Barry Finnerty. Over the next 5 years he recorded for Bluenote, Elektra and Mercury Records and toured extensively. In 1980, Hamilton gained a new audience with the release of Nomad, which contained the Brazilian-influenced 'Strut' that become a hit on the UK Northern Soul scene. He founded another new band, Euphoria, in 1987, which became popular on the European jazz festival circuit through the rest of the 80s. In 1991, Hamilton reunited with his original 1950s bandmates to record Reunion for Italian label Soul Note. He reformed Euphoria in 1993; recording 2 albums and touring Europe. Despite his advancing years, Hamilton continued to record regularly, and released no fewer than 4 albums on the Joyous Shout! Label in 2006 to celebrate his 85th birthday. His final album Revelations, was recorded while Chico was recovering from a serious health condition, Chico Hamilton died of natural causes on 25th November, 2013, at the age of 92.
