(Clelia Iruzun) is indeed a most gifted artist...this important new album enjoys excellent sound and splendid playing by both soloist and orchestra. It is strongly recommended. More please! Musical Opinion. Brazilian Mosaic contains some of the jewels of Brazilian composers. It combines solo piano works with works for string orchestra and music for piano and strings. Francisco Mignone, Marlos Nobre and Villa Lobos are composers who fused the folk music of Brazil with the European styles. Ronaldo Miranda, belonging to a later generation explores a more contemporary vein. However, his Concertino returns to a more tonal and popular language. Their works are full of phantasy and life. Villa Lobos's Bachiana Brasileiras no.9 for strings is one of the composer's best known works. It consists of a Prelude and Fugue as in the J. S. Bach Well Tempered Clavier, but that's all the comparison one can make. The work is strikingly original and full of rhythm, such a pleasure to listen as well as play! The Barrozo Netto Minha Terra, Edino Krieger Sonatina and Villa Lobos As Tres Marias are written for solo piano. Here as well as in the works for piano and strings Clelia Iruzun shows her wonderful tone, married with lovely rhythm and a true Brazilian soul. Lontano, conducted by Odaline de la Martinez joins Iruzun in this wonderful disc.
