This special 2 DVD box set presents VICTOR K Mk II and VULCAN B Mk I, two programs that present two machines that provided Britain's nuclear deterrent during the Cold War with the Soviet Union With in-depth analysis and exclusive archive footage, these programs look at the design, development and production of what would become iconic bombers. VULCAN B MARK I As World War Two finally came to an end, a new danger emerged from the west as the Soviet Union looked to invade its former allies. To create an effective nuclear deterrent, Britain began developing an aircraft capable of delivering the weapons of mass destruction whose very existence would hopefully prevent another World War. This aircraft would be the Vulcan Mk I, a jet-powered delta wing strategic bomber, which would initially carry Britain's very first nuclear weapon, the Blue Danube gravity bomb. VICTOR K MARK II The Handley Page Victor was the third and final V-Bomber that provided Great Britain's nuclear deterrent during the Cold War. Also modified to take on strategic reconnaissance duties, the Victor eventually became an airborne refueling tanker when the Navy's submarines and their Polaris missiles assumed the deterrence mission in 1969.
