Dazkarieh combines familiar instruments like drums, acoustic guitar and nyckelharpa with traditional Portuguese instruments like cavaquinho, bragues, adufe and bagpipes. Furthermore, the band also uses self-created instruments like the hybrid Portuguese bouzouki with two extra bass strings and a pick-up, thus producing a sound spectrum ranging from strictly acoustic to distorted, analog processed sounds treated with special effects. Dazkarieh has a totally different view on traditional music creating a new tonal appearance. The electrified sounds of traditional instruments is blended with strictly acoustic ones, thus enchanting the smooth but powerful voice of Joana. She makes it very clear that past and present are no antipodes, on the contrary, they can harmoniously coexist.
