Desmond Dekker (1941-2006) was one serious originator, who along with a very select group stands at the forefront of the development of Jamaican music and its ultimate worldwide influence.
Desmond Dekker was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae singer-songwriter and musician. An early innovator and global music star, he was best known for his 1968 hit song ''Israelites''* and for other hits like ''007 (Shanty Town)'' (1967), ''It Mek''* (1969) and ''You Can Get It If You Really Want''* (1970).
