This release includes two complete consecutive 1962 masterpieces by the great Dexter Gordon: Go! (BST84112), and A Swingin' Affair (Blue Note BST84133). Both albums were made in the course of the same week and with the exact same quartet, which consisted of Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. Gordon wouldn't record another session with this same formation. Clark died in January of1963 at the age of 31.The 2-CD set is filled with two further complete albums presenting Dexter with outstanding pianists: the quartet LP Dexter Calling ( BST84083), featuring Kenny Drew, and Dexter Blows Hot and Cool (Dootone DTL207), recorded mostly in a quartet format (Jimmy Robinson plays trumpet on just three tunes), with Carl Perkins at the piano.
