Scottish singer-songwriter, guitarist and composer, Donovan was born 10 May 1946. Blending folk, jazz, pop, psychedelia and world music, Donovan came out of the British folk scene in the mid-1960s, achieving fame quickly in the UK with live performances on the TV show Ready Steady Go! He signed with Pye Records in 1965 and recorded singles and two albums in the folk vein, after which he signed to CBS/Epic Records in the US - the first signing by the company's new vice-president Clive Davis - and became more successful internationally. He began a long and successful collaboration with leading British independent record producer Mickie Most, scoring multiple hit singles and albums in the UK, US, and other territories. His most successful hits, 'Catch the Wind', 'Colours and 'Universal Soldier' in 1965, and 1966's 'Sunshine Superman' (which topped America's Billboard Hot 100 and reached number two in the UK) was followed by 'Mellow Yellow' in 1968 and 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' and 'Atlantis', in 1969. Donovan continued to perform and record sporadically in the 1970s and 1980s, and the performance included on this CD comes from an extraordinary show he gave at New York's Bottom Line Club in April 1976, shortly before the release of his 15th album, Slow Down World. Featuring a host of Donovan classics plus a number of cuts from his new release, this stunning concert is now available here on CD for the first time, more than 40 years after it was recorded for live FM Broadcast.
