Beautifully restored by The Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, this classic Mexican film noir, will be a treat for students of the great auteur Luis Buñuel, who directed and co-wrote the script with Luis Alcoriza. The Brute is a brawny slaughterhouse worker who relies more on muscle than brain power. He's hired by a landlord to intimidate his unwanted tenants into moving, but ends up seducing the daughter of one of them, much to the annoyance of the landlord's wife, with whom he's also having an affair... Gorgeously photographed by Agustín Jiménez and full of plot twist, this should be on any noir lovers short list.

Press Quotes

The Mexican film was made in 1952 when Bunuel... was busy earning a decent living by turning out popular comedies and melodramas for Latin American audiences...Bunuel scholars... will appreciate the amount of subtly subversive material that the master has been able to slip into a conventional melodrama about the exploitation of the poor by the venal, mendacious members of the bourgeoisie.
