Founded in Bremen by Tom "The Perc" Redecker, from the beginning the project became a multimusical association, which knows no boundaries and seems to feel comfortable in every genre, regardless of whether it is prog-, Kraut-, punk-, jazz- or folkrock. It's not surprising that numerous musicians from such diverse bands as Amon Düül II, Die Ärzte, Grobschnitt, Boa's Voodoo Club, Lokomotive Kreuzberg, Pankow, Rockhaus, Mojo Club, Emsland Hillbillies - to name only a few - joined THE ELECTRIC FAMILY in the studio and on stage. For their second album, "Tender", 1999, THE ELECTRIC FAMILY had almost received the German Critic Record Prize, and to the third album "Ice Cream Phoenix" American rock writer David Fricke (Rolling Stone) wrote the liner notes! "You can get lost in this music," was his enthusiastic conclusion, and in principle this assessment may be valid for all albums (and performances) of THE ELECTRIC FAMILY. One can say without exaggeration, that "Terra Circus" has become the most powerful and impulsive album of the Electric Family. The energy is almost tangible, and especially guitarist Rolf Kirschbaum (The Pachinko Fake, ex-Witt, ex-Fehlfarben) rages as if it were about his life. But the whole band is presented in the very best condition: Harry Payuta shows repeatedly that he is one of the best sitarists of the time, analogue keyboardist Anders Becker shines on his keys, the two drummers Janssen and Ulrich push and push forward uninterruptedly, and bandleader The Perc holds the band together with his 6 or 12 strings. The deeply self-contained cover versions were always the salt in the soup of the Electric Family, "Lucrecia, my Reflection" of the Sisters Of Mercy is a psychedelic monster with sitar support, and "Mary, Mary so contrary" from CAN grows to a passionate contribution with Slide Guitar and a three-pipe organ solo in the key part. A strong, album!
