Over forty years have now passed since the "King Of Rock", the legendary Elvis Presley died at his Memphis home aged only 42 years. However, his legend has continued to grow and he is now recognised as one of the icons of the Twentieth Century. Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on 8th January 1935, the oldest of twin boys, although the younger child Jesse Garon was still born. At the age of eight, Elvis won $5 in a local talent contest, his first ever singing appearance in public. Five years later the Presley family moved to Memphis. After Elvis left school there he took his first job, working as a lorry driver. During his spare time Elvis loved singing and he was already showing early promise. He made a one-off recording of My Happiness and That's When Your Heartaches begin as a surprise birthday present for his mother Gladys and it came to the attention of local record company entrepreneur Sam Phillips who owned Sun Studios in Memphis. He decided to sign the young up-and-coming singer to his label, Sun records. This new collection includes rare recordings from the Louisiana Hayride radio shows which were first broadcast in the mid-Fifties and includes live renditions of Hound Dog, There's Good Rockin' Tonight, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Blue Moon Of Kentucky, Long Tall Sally and Maybellene, while guitarist John Davis adds his own personal musical tributes to the "King Of Rock & Roll" with such Presley classics as Wooden Heart, Love Me Tender, His Latest Flame and Return To Sender.
