Robert ('Bob') Hawk has been a longtime advisor and mentor to writers, directors and film festivals, having been a part of the independent film scene for over thirty years. Starting with his involvement in documentary as a researcher on Rob Epstein's Oscar-winning 'The Times of Harvey Milk', Hawk has been credited with discovering and/or nurturing the talents of filmmakers such as Kevin Smith ('Clerks'), Joe Carnahan ('Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane'), Ed Burns (The Brothers McMullen), David Siegel & Scott McGehee (The Deep End) and more.

FILM HAWK takes an intimate look at Bob Hawk, from his early years as a young gay child of a Methodist minister to the man who shepherded the careers of and selflessly championed filmmakers on some of the most influential independent films and filmmakers of our time, in this critically acclaimed feature documentary written and directed by JJ Garvine and Tai Parquet.

Press Quotes

The affectionate documentary 'Film Hawk' gives Hawk a well-deserved curtain call... an affectionate documentary tribute.

     —Scott Tobias, Variety

What's important here is Hawk's contribution, which was the result of love and passion for films and his desire and selfless efforts to shepherd work he cared about to a public that would appreciate them.

     —Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

A pleasing visit with a keen-eyed pathfinder for American independent filmmakers.

     —Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

It is clear the influence that Hawk has had on many artists and people throughout his storied career; however perhaps more interestingly we get a peek at the more personal story of the man himself.

     —Benjamin Gummery, Indie Mac User

A charming documentary about an important figure in American indie cinema.

     —Alistair Ryder, Gay Essential
