LA's finest are on hand for the 'ride'! An extremely enjoyable collaboration that ended in a 'tight', world-class large ensemble project with incredible charts & solos...In addition to playing great solos, the soloists' effervescent personalities gave rise to many enjoyable moments during the recording process. This is a Special Recording and was one of the last sessions of the late, great Carl Saunders.

One of Urwin's favorite Carl-isms was elegantly simple and gave real-world advice on how to be both successful and happy. Urwin still calls it to mind frequently. It goes something like this:

Press Quotes

The Gary Urwin Jazz Orchestra raises the bar for big band music across the globe.... an extraordinary level of performance that very few large ensembles can touch....

     —critical jazz

His charts are swinging and challenging, melodic and unpredictable. His 19-piece orchestra gives the music plenty of spirit.

     —LA Jazz Scene

The band is comprised of the crème de la crème of players on the L.A. scene.... [The soloists are] all giants on their instruments. The arrangements are by Urwin, and they reflect why he is so highly regarded by players and listeners alike...

     —Jersey Jazz

...Gary Urwin is one heck of an arranger...the personnel couldn't be more illustrious.

     —Jazz Times

The uniqueness of Urwin's arrangements, steeped in the jazz tradition but still characterized by his own sense of fun, make each of his successive albums models of unpredictable pleasures...
