Horiuchi's final recording before his untimely death is also one of his best. The Unit (a) group is now so well-settled that they speak with an absolutely common language and an absolute unity of purpose. Some of the forced classicism has gone from Horiuchi's own playing and his long lines are now much more symmetrical and evenly paced. All four pieces are long, but it's 'Angel Tears' that stands out, a gloriously evocative and harmonically complex piece, equal with Glenn's best.
