While carrying the blues around the world, from the Equator to the Arctic Circle, Guy Davis came back with fresh inspiration and new stories to tell. ''Kokomo Kidd'', Guy's follow-up album to the Blues Music Award nominated ''Juba Dance'' from 2013.
The new release, his second for M.C. Records, finds the ambassador visiting fresh territory. ''It's a new beginning for me,'' he says, ''The first time I produced myself. What I'm showing here is a side of me that's deep inside. It's needing air and light, and here it comes!''
Special Guests:
Charlie Musselwhite, Ben Jaffe & Fabrizio Poggi
Guy Davis has parallel careers - as a musician, an author, a music teacher and a film, television and Broadway actor - mark Davis as a Renaissance man, yet the blues remain his first and greatest love. Growing up in a family of artists (his parents were Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis), he fell under the spell of Blind Willie McTell and Fats Waller at an early age.

Press Quotes
With each new release, the clothes of an old bluesman fit Guy Davis more and more comfortably. By now the blues are completely a part of who he is . Perhaps the best thing about Davis is that he never tries to be something he's not; there's no fake Southern accent. What you hear is what you get .There's plenty of talent in Davis but there's also an obvious deep love for the blues, especially the rural country blues, and he brings to his music a real timelessness. The man just keeps getting better and better.
—All Music Guide
...This has got to be the best back porch record of this year. Killer stuff.
—Chris Spector, Midwest Record
He's America's greatest link to the blues right now.
—Windsor Star
If the earthy power of Guy Davis's sandpaper vocals doesn't grab your attention and the resonance of his acoustic-guitar strings doesn't turn your head, you need to make sure you're still alive.
