On November 29, 1970, Susskind booked Mel Brooks, David Steinberg, George Segal, Stan Herman, Dan Greenburg, and Larry Goldberg for a panel entitled "How to be a Jewish Son," aka "My Son, the Success." Led by Brooks' manic brilliance, the show became an instant subject of conversation. Viewers jammed the TV station phone lines to voice their shock, calling it "vile," "vulgar," "disgraceful," and "the most insulting thing Mr. Susskind has ever done." Looking back, this episode has been judged to be one of the funniest shows ever produced, and Susskind ran it for years afterward to critical acclaim.
