In celebration of Janette Carter's eightieth birthday on July 2, 2003, Bear Family Records and County Records are proud to make available once more Janette and Joe Carter's 1966 album, 'Joe & Janette Sing Carter Family Favorites.' Just before Janette and Joe Carter's father, A. P. Carter, died in November 1960, they promised him that they would keep the music alive, and this album was
one of the first steps on their journey. It has the timeless quality of the very best Carter Family recordings.
That the original songs recorded by the Carter Family survive at all is due to A. P. Carter's infallible ear, and the fact that they're still heard and played today is due in great measure to the tireless effort of Janette Carter.
