Webco Records recorded many legendary musicians and in 1994, when Pinecastle acquired the label, a commitment was made to re-release many of the old masters. Thus, Pinecastle Records presents this collection as Vol. 3 of the “Webco Classics' series.Jim Eanes distinctive vocals earned him a place as one f the pioneers of bluegrass. There are very few eanes' recordings on the market on CD. This recording spans Jim's thirty-year career from the Starday projects in the 50's to some unreleased material in the 60's and material recorded for the Webco label in the early 80's. The album was originally released as Shenandoah Grass, Yesterday and Today. For the most part, these recordings were made by Jim using his band, “The Shenandoah Valley Boys.” On the first six recordings the band consisted of Roy Russell on fiddle, Arnold Terry and Joe Phillips on bass, and longtime Eanes sideman Allen Shelton on banjo. The sidemen on the final six songs were Bill Emerson on banjo, Russ Hooper on Dobro, Carl Nelson on fiddle, Buzz Busby on mandolin, and Doug Ward on bass. Eanes himself provides distinctive, strong rhythm guitar on all selections.
