Joe & his band, through vision and work, made these various approaches their own. NATION TIME represents real "FREE JAZZ": the freedom to pursue sounds & rhythms that inspire players to improvise with individual vitality & passion - no matter what different kinds of music are represented. McPhee knew this four decades ago, as did many of the other musicians whose ideas can be felt in the vibrations on this album. It's about time we all caught up to Joe McPhee's inclusionary tactics.
