In addition to recording roughly 30 albums between1955 and 1969, London would also enjoy a career in both television and film, where her beauty could be truly appreciated. She would appear in over 20 films beside actors like Gregory Peck, Gary Cooper and Rock Hudson. While her work as an actress would both precede, and have greater longevity than, her career as a vocalist, it wasn't until she released her debut album Julie Is Her Name, that London truly became a household name. No one could have imagined the album's success, considering that it was the first LP of a still relatively unknown figure, released on a new label, and featuring only guitar (Barney Kessel) and bass (Ray Leatherwood). Released by Records in December of 1955 in monaural form, it was subsequently electronically reprocessed to produce a stereophonic album, and this stereophonic version was released on May 25, 1960 as catalog number LST-7037 (we present here the original mono version). The first track, "Cry Me a River," was released as a single ( 55006) and was London's biggest chart success ever. Julie Is Her Name, Volume II was released by Records on August 1, 1958 and was originally recorded in stereo. The second volume came after five other different LP releases by London, and was his seventh album. Although the instrumentation behind her was again guitar and bass, the musicians were Howard Roberts on guitar, and Red Mitchell on bass. This CD also contains four rare tracks originally issued on a Bethlehem LP of various artists
