If you can't stand the heat...Too bad cause here comes Kingston Kitchen! This album is incredible, how could it not be' When you bring the already amazing and established Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation fronted by the notorious Dr. Ring Ding! Genius is sure to ensue. Super tight, intricate North Western European traditional ska sounds of Rotterdam, with the larger than life vocalization, performing and tromboning stylee of the Doctor himself. This album is a refreshing sound to most ska records currently out there. Even more so are Ring Ding's vocals, in that he does more "singing" and less "toasting." I think this is a great direction for the Dr. It opens up many more avenues for him and other projects that he is involved in. On the Rotterdam front, this album showcases their ability to be versatile. Although the majority of the album is in the ska-jazz vein, Kingston Kitchen is a bit more upbeat and more pop structured ska performers. Also the fact that there are vocals now, of which Rotterdam are usually an instrumental band. But they manage to balance the music and the lyrics very well. A fan of either band should definitely pick this one up, or if you have yet to be introduced to Dr. Ring Ding or Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation, this album is the perfect place to start!
