Written in 1945, Ivanovs' Symphony No 5 is still one of the best examples of Latvian symphonic writing. Karlsons, Ivanvovs' student, wrote his Music for Symphony Orchestra "1945" in 1985 as a commission from the state to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the end of the War.
