Les Paul & Mary Ford were extremely significant artists during the early 1950s, their records featuring the revolutionary and innovative recording techniques which Les was developing in his home studio, using multi-tracking and overdubbing to create effects which at the time were completely new and brought a different dimension to the world of pop music. A master of the instrument, Les Paul developed his legendary designs of electric guitar, which have become benchmarks in the world of rock, blues and country guitar-playing. Les had hits in 1945 and '46 with Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters where he was credited on the label, but performing with his wife Mary Ford, the duo scored over 50 hits in the years from their 1948 debut through to their last chart entries in 1961, including some hugely successful and significant No.1s like "How High The Moon" and "Vaya Con Dios". Their records were unusual, in that they often coupled a Les & Mary vocal duet on one side of the record with a solo recording by Les, often one of his distinctive jazz and country-flavoured guitar instrumentals, showcasing his latest recording trickery, on the other. On many occasions, both sides charted, so in this great value 55-track 2-CD collection we get the best of both worlds, as it includes all Les' solo chart entries as well as their hits as a duo. Their style transcends the genres, at the time achieving a very wide appeal, and they occupied a unique and entertaining niche in the pop landscape of the '50s.
