Liam Noble describes playing solo piano: 'A solo recording distills everything. You can investigate things without having to accommodate the ideas of your band mates. This is a double edged sword; sometimes when no ideas are forthcoming, those of other musicians are extremely useful. Playing solo, the only dialogue is one with oneself, or perhaps with the imaginary bird inside that self.'

Press Quotes

Noble's first solo record for 20 years is virtuosic and inventively programmed, yet also reflective and elegant.

     —London Jazz News

'Liam Noble is such a terrific pianist that he can do completely unpianistic things, like imitating the rhythms and sound effects that are more appropriate to a banjo, and still keep you absolutely enthralled.'

     —Dave Gelly, The Observer

'An excellent album that anyone interested in the art of jazz piano will want to get to know.'

     —Stephen Graham, Marlbank

'On this solo effort he combines fluency in jazz history with the refined touch of a classical pianist'

     —Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader

'...A box of surprises.'

     —Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph
