"...and if they don't understand the Bavarian - never mind, they won't understand the Spanish either!" - said Don Michon, one of the band leaders of the "Cubavarian" rumba formation "Los Dos Y Compañeros" in November 2010 on the German TV programme "Inas Nacht" ("Ina's Night Show"). Yet all Ina Müller had really asked was: "Why do you sing lyrics in Bavarian dialect to Cuban rhythms?". The rumba and salsa fans in Germany and now in other parts of Europe have long stopped asked that question. The eleven-strong formation "Los Dos y Compañeros" (The two and their partners) have made hundreds of appearances - concerts and festival gigs - since they set themselves up in 2000. Their reputation has spread back to the motherland of the rumba too: the "Cubavarian" band with its hybrid music is pretty darned authentic and original. That is why Don Macson and Don Michon, the lead singers who set up the ensemble, sing their songs in Bavarian dialect. They are so successful that their number "Danzn" (Dancing) - the Bavarian original version -went right to number four in the charts of the largest Cuban radio station.
