Punk, folk and rock are the roots of Malasañers, formed in 2011, which singer/guitarist and band founder Carlos del Pino brought to Bamberg from the Spanish capital in 2014. After some personnel changes, he has found his desired line-up with Cornelius Appun (guitar), Andreas 'Randy Andy' Neuner (double bass) and Dominik Schödel (drums). The band name is a reference to the young tailor Manuela Malasaña from Madrid, who was shot by French soldiers in the Spanish fight for freedom in 1808. The four cite bands like The Pogues, Flogging Molly, the Dropkick Murphys and The Ramones as their common musical denominator. Ultimately, however, the band is inspired by everything that is musically located in the area of tension between ska, country, punk, folk, rockabilly/rock'n'roll and rock. A special feature is certainly the use of double bass instead of electric bass. After two albums "Spanish Eyes" and "Footprints" for the label Wolverine Records, the quartet signed a contract with the Munich-based label Gallileo Music at the beginning of the year. The new album "Venceremos" with 13 tracks is now released there. Among them is "Scheiss Drauf", the first German-language song of the Malasañers. Besides songs like "Rise And Fall" (for which a video already exists), "Serenata" (Skapunk with Spanish influences) and flawless Poppunk on "Shine", the band also has music for quiet moments on their self-produced third album, as the ballads "Put A Light In Your Window" and "Troubles" impressively prove. After countless shows at home and abroad with well-known acts like The Rumjacks, Fiddler's Green, Mr. Irish Bastard or the Real McKenzies, the quartet is now eager to bring the new pieces on stage. And their 'working class' themes, the quest for social justice and a plea for peaceful coexistence across borders are more topical than ever.
