The four-piece, consisting of Michael Brennan (vocals and guitar), Matthew Cromarty (guitar), Harley Paul (drums), and Andrew Roberts (bass) are atmospheric, dramatic and at times, cathartic. After two EP’s and as many tours of the northeastern United States under their belt, Mellonova return with Slightly Happy (Aporia Records/No!), their first full-length offering. The album was produced and mixed by Rudy Rempel (Sloan, Weakerthans, Nefarious) at Chemical Sound. "We’ve only ever done ep’s so a full-length gave us the space to document the different things we like to do musically,” explains Mellonova guitarist Matt Cromarty. “There’re heavy bits, pretty bits and instrumental bits. I think that’s what we were most excited about doing this record... getting it all down... different feels, different energies." Do not confuse Mellonova with the ever growing pack of shoegaze wannabe’s. These guys are a solid, sonically charged and psychedelically infused rock outfit that will blow the pants off most would-be challengers. Vendetta Magazine called the disc “a dazzling combination of spectacular effects and potent chords that range from blisful to downright explosive.” The band’s tunes have appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and CityTV’s Movie Television, as well as on compilations from US based Archenemy Records (Know your Enemy), Toronto-based Revent Records, and from the international skateboard magazine Slap.
