-120 years ago the community became an independent municipality, 100 years ago the famous letters were created - H O L L Y W O O D - for Bear Family Records® reason enough for a jam-packed double CD! -With 61 recordings from 1928-2011, Hollywood's story is told with icons like Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Mitchum, Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas and many more: Songs about Hollywood, songs by movie stars, and film scores from the silent era to the present. -Some songs from movies were not previously released on LP or CD, e.g. R'n'R with Fred Astaire and comedian Jerry Lewis. -Movie hits like Moon River from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', Doris Day's Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps, more recent exclusive recordings by Val Kilmer, Los Lobos and the Hans Zimmer Orchestra as well as historical sound documents by Johnny Weissmuller and Marlon Brando and recordings by European Hollywood stars like Gina Lollobrigida or Sophia Loren round off this homage to Hollywood music. 120 years ago, on November 14, 1903, Hollywood was granted the status of an independent municipality. The famous letters, Hollywood's landmark, were erected 100 years ago - two anniversaries in one year, giving us cause for a musical tribute to this magical place. We start with some songs dealing with Hollywood itself, together with the majority of the recordings - soundtracks and actors singing - a musical journey through time from the beginnings of the dream factory in the silent film era to the new millennium was created. Both CDs contain rare recordings that were previously only heard in the film itself and have never been released on LP or CD before. On the first eight songs, rockers like Carl Perkins,Ray Campi a.o., as well as the modern jazz of Chet Baker & Bud Shank, deal with Hollywood itself, followed by Tarzan alias Johnny Weissmuller's legendary Jungle Scream,at the same time the beginning of an almost chronological time travel through Hollywood's musical film history!
