"It's been a long time since the Flamenco guitarist Nikos Tsiachris had the idea to record a solo album. But just now the time was ripe for it. The new album "Alcance" by Nikos Tsiachris stands for a matured Flamenco artist whose outstanding playing style is presented in beautiful original compositions. Especially the 4 solo guitar pieces prove that the Berlin based artist with Greek roots can definitely keep up with the Spanish masters.

At the same time "Alcance" was a self-analysis: So Nikos Tsiachris states "I am a modern Flamenco artist. Anyone who expects a 70s and 80s Flamenco sound will be disappointed." In fact the album sends out a modernity and exquisite freshness. Right in the first track the listener encounters a Rock guitar, which leads to the song ending and echoes in the distance. In the track "Lobna" a trumpet solo in a Taqsim style surprises the listener. It contributes to a the song's captivating oriental touch.

Nikos Tsiachris was supported by the excellent percussion player Bandolero, who has already toured internationally with the "Jorge Pardo´s Trio" and the "Joaquín Cortés Ballet Flamenco". On "Alcance" Bandolero plays cajón, palmas and jaleo and grands the album with a unique rhythmical note. Amazingly both musicians got to know each other just 2 days before the recording. But they musically understood each other right away and recorded these wonderful and diversified album. Furthermore Nikos Tsiachris invited following great guest musicians: the double bass player Yelsy Heredia who has played with Diego el Cigala, Bebo and Chucho Valdés; the Flamenco singer Juan Cárdenas who wrote a lovely poem for the tune ""Veleta"".

The first solo album by Nikos Tsiachris is a colorful album full of authenticity, passion and love!"

"Alcance" was awarded, with the label, Top of the World by the international renown Songlines magazine.

Press Quotes

As flamenco continues to expand its appeal across the globe, one familiar disappointment is to hear foreign guitarists who have learned its techniques, but not the spirit of the music. There are no such problems, thankfully, with Nikos Tsiachris. He's a Greek guitarist based in Berlin who has mastered many styles on his instrument. Throughout this album he demonstrates that he understands the sweep and drama of flamenco; his songs have structure and narrative, while his playing is often spectacular. There is nothing notably Greek in his sound, but he does bring plenty of fresh ideas: a subtle line of trumpet playing, some double bass or a shimmering wash of electric guitar. The album ends with the lovely, tender song 'Veleta' sung by Juan Cárdenas. There's a wonderful range of palos (flamenco styles) and he has a stunning touch on the guitar. His classical technique shows through occasionally and there's a slight reticence from time to time. Despite this, Alcance is one of the most refreshing and beautifully played albums of flamenco guitar to appear in a long time.
