Nortt was formed in the autumn of 1995. In alliance with death and darkness, a journey on the left-hand path had begun. Two years passed by, creating a concept of nihilistic and misanthropic philosophy, preached through black funeral doom metal. The elegies of Nortt tell about death and darkness viewed from the dying and from the dead. They reveal an alluring tale of death. The grave is praised as the godforsaken heaven where eternal darkness prevails. The subtle message: Follow the pale horse! At a funereal pace and with a sombre tone, Nortt summons the forces of the night. Under the influence of those forces, "Nattetale" (eng: "Night's Speech") was recorded in the darkest hours of October 1997. The aim of this first chapter was to invoke the spirit of the night and tell the alluring tale of solitude in eternal darkness. Another year passed before the second release, "Døden..." (eng: "Death..."), became a reaping reality. It was another creation with the intention of leading the listener towards the grave. When 1999 was drawing to its close, the third creation was released, "Graven" (eng: "The Grave"). A sad tale told by graveless souls. With the painful cries from these souls, a trilogy of demo releases ended the first era. Then in late spring 2002, Italian Maggot Records released "Graven" as a 10" pic disc. However, the 10" does not contain the entire recording, despite what the track list reveals. A couple of months then passed until Sombre Records from the German underground released yet another recording on vinyl: a 7" EP entitled "Hedengang" (eng: "The Passing"). An epitaph from beyond the grave. After a burial, the deceased is forgotten and has thus been blessed with unholy salvation. By the end of April 2003, Possession Productions - hailing from Belarus - released a compilation cassette: "Mournful Monuments 1998-2002". As the title indicates, it consists entirely of old material. Under the fifth full moon 2003, "Gudsforladt" (eng: "Godforsaken") was released as a 12" LP. Again it was Sombre Records that gave life to this creation of godforsaken death. The album gathers the strongest material of the past with new compositions. If there is any light left in your insignificant life, with any luck, this will extinguish it! The Danish record label Diehard Bloodline released the CD edition of "Gudsforladt" in February 2004. An additional track, "Evig hvile", is featured exclusively for this release. In February 2004, the Swedish record label Total Holocaust Records released "Graven" as a full-length CD. Additionally, "Graven" was issued as a 12" LP through the Greek record label Cryptia Productions. In the dead of December 2004, Total Holocaust Records then spawned a split CD with the black metal act Xasthur. The contribution of Nortt was the "Hedengang" EP. The split release was licensed by Southern Lord Recordings in spring 2005. In addition to the re-issued CD, the North American label also released a 12" vinyl version, showing different artwork. With the latter release, the casket containing the first decade was closed. The second era: merely earth, ashes and dust. The past dwells in shadow... "Ligfærd" (eng: "Funeral March"/"Journey of the Dead") descended from the blackened sky at the end of 2005. Conjured forth in the dead of night, an intervention from the beyond increased the funereal atmosphere on this eerie full-length album, creating the strongest and darkest material thus far. From the crypts of Possession Productions, Total Holocaust Records, Cryptia Productions, German Viva Hate Records, and US Red Stream, "Ligfærd" will haunt mortals everywhere. A covenant was entered with Italian Avantgarde Music in March 2006. The outcome of this was cast upon the world at the beginning of 2008. "Galgenfrist" (eng: "Gallows Respite"/"Respite before Death") follows the trail of "Ligfærd" and summons the dead in a nocturnal ritual - they manifest and chant the beginning and the end. Seven omens of cold funereal atmosphere that will haul you beyond.
